DESCRIPTION
A mature 1er Cru Côte de Nuits Red Burgundy.
The lowdown:
Older Burgundies, such as this, are not seen as often their counterparts from Bordeaux, but their development makes for really interesting wines. Morey-Saint-Denis sits the the heart of the Côte de Nuits adjoining Gevrey-Chambertin and the wines from the Clos des Ormes vineyard, not far from the appellation boundary certainly share some of their characteristics. Over the years the 2006 has matured very well developing the richly gamey character of an aged Burgundy.
When to drink:
This is quite a treat and excellent to drink with feathered game dishes in not too rich a sauce.
PRODUCER
Maison Louis Jadot

One of the major negociant houses in Burgundy founded in 1859 by the eponymous Louis Jadot and based in Beaune where their striking, purpose built winery can be found..
While their négociant operations form a major part of what they do they also have significant vineyard holdings of their own stretching through the Cote d'Or to the Maconnais and Beaujolais regions. They also manage additional vineyards in the Côte Chalonnaise.
In recent years their success has in no small part been due to the management of André Gagey and winemaker Jacques Lardière. The wines made from both from bought in and their own grapes have a solid reputation. Their Côte de Beaune reds and whites in particular are among their stand out wines. Following the retirement of Jacques Lardière in 2013 his assistant Frédéric Barnier has taken over the reins and continues to build on the foundations laid by his predecessor.
