Majella are among the top echelons of producers in the highly renowned South Australian wine region of Coonawarra. Starting out in ther late 1960s Brian and Anthony Lynn grew grapes on some land purchased by their parents and sold them to other wineries in the area - chiefly Wynn's Connawarra estate - and it wasn't until 1991 that they decided to make some wine of their own.
The success of their early wines prompted them to build a winery on their own premises which started production in 1999. From the outset all their wines have been made by the talented Bruce Gregory and this, combined with the fact they're fortunate to own some prime vineyards on the famed red soil, or 'Terra Rossa', for which Coonawarra is noted, has earned them consistent acclaim.
In total they have about 60 hectares of vines, on just over half of which grows Cabernet Sauvignon. On a further third is planted Shiraz with a lttle Merlot and Rielsing maiking up the remainder. As for the future, they are fully commited to continuing to stay among the top flight of South Australian producers.
