DESCRIPTION
A sweet, floral and fruity sherry which makes a great dessert wine.
The lowdown:
Moscatel is a relatively little seen style and Lustau are one of the few producers of this style of dessert wine made from the Moscatel grape. It this has a luscious grapey flavour combined with spicy fruitcake richness. It finshes with a great length and sweetness which is well balanced by a good natural acidity.
When to drink:
Serve it very slightly chilled with cakes, pastries and chocolate.
PRODUCER
Bodegas Lustau

Established in 1896 Lustau's origins were quite modest. Initially they made wines which were sold to larger producers rather than under their own label. It wasn't untit the 1940s with the company in the hands of the founder's son-in-law Emilio Lustau Ortega that they started to market their own bottlings. The following decades saw the company begin its steady expansion.
Fasting forward to the 1980s their reputation was growing along with their range of wines. And it was during this period that they introduced their, now well known, Alamcenista range where they bottle and market carefully selected sherrys from small independent small independent producers called Almcenistas.
In the 1990s they were acquired by Grupo Caballlero which allowed further investment and development of the business. Shortly after this they moved to their current base in the the centre of Jerez a group of historic 19th century buildings where the bulk of their wines are now aged and bottled.
