The lowdown:
Launched in 2021 Collection 242 is the new house champagne of Louis Roederer replacing their Brut Premier. A wine of exceptional quality Collection is almost a mini-vintage champagne but with a sizeable amount of 'Perpetual Reserve' in the final blend as well. 56% of the 242 blend is vintage 2017, 10% is a mix of Reserve wines from older vintages aged in oak, while the rest comes from the 'Perpetual Reserve': a blend of vintages that is kept topped up with each vintage. 242 is made up of 42% Chardonnay, 36% Pinot Noir and 22% Meunier from predominately Roederer's vineyards of La Riviére, La Montagne and La Côte.
Wonderful Chardonnay aromas of ripe, sweet fruit complemented subtle oaky notes. A rich, vibrant and ripe velvety palate with the Pinot Noir and Meunier grapes adding a broad, juicy and fruity character, with a energetic and fresh finish.
When to drink:
Luxurious, generous and mature, it's perfect for impressing with canapés.
