A luxuriously complex and subtly spicy vintage pink champagne.
Good vintage rosés need to have very ripe grapes and for this reason Louis Roederer source the grapes from some of the earliest ripening, and steeply sloped south facing, vineyards. Two thirds of the blend is Pinot Noir which supplies the colour and richness while the rest is Chardonnay which brings with it bright, fresh notes. The 2013 was vinified in 33% old oak casks and bottle aged for four years before disgorgment. There is a complex bouquet dominated by an almost minty freshness combined with zesty fruit, wild strawberry and raspberry while, on the palate it's soft, smooth yet piercingly fresh. With a good weight, delicate mouthfeel and velvety smoothness it all leads up to a fresh, long and persistent finish.
Seriously good and a joy to drink. Good with salmon, or tuna, lamb, or feathered game.
