Description
France: Languedoc-Roussillon
Fruity & Bright White
Dry - Light-Medium Body - Oaked
ABV 12.5% - 75.0cl
In a Nutshell:
Southern French Chardonnay with a northern accent - fresher, lighter and closer to the Mâconnais than the Med.
The Lowdown:
Limoux may sit well down in the Languedoc, but its vineyards climb towards the Pyrenean foothills, where the altitude cools things off. The result here is a style of Chardonnay that's far brighter and more restrained than you'd expect at this latitude. Orchard fruit and citrus take the lead, with light oak ageing adding subtle weight and a touch of spice. The balance and finesse are more reminiscent of the Mâconnais than the Mediterranean - a reminder that geography can play tricks with expectation.
The Producer:
Based in Limoux since 1946, Sieur d'Arques is the region's leading co-operative and the name most closely tied to its sparkling tradition. Best known for Blanquette and Crémant de Limoux, they've also developed a reputation for precise, Chardonnay-driven still wines that highlight the area's varied microclimates. The strength of the co-op lies in its growers' collective approach: combining long experience with careful vineyard management and a focus on expressing Limoux's distinctive mix of freshness, balance and complexity.
When to Drink:
Spot on with poultry, creamy fish or soft cheeses, where its freshness and discreet oak keep everything in line
