A wine fully living up to Priorat's much vaunted reputation. It's balanced, full of flavour - blackberries and blue berries - with beautifully smooth tannins and great structure. From one of the area's best producers; for the price it's an absloute steal.
Buil y Gine
Though winemaking is in the blood of the Buil y Giné families, it was only in 1996 that they returned to winemaking to continue the tradition that had been part of the family for so long. They are situated in the village of Gratallops in Tarragona province which is probably the most important in Priorat and where they rub shoulders with many other distinguished producers. They also operate a hotel and restaurant at the winery and are fully geared up for visitors.
Their vines are on the classic soils of Priorat - slate, shale and liquorella - which are poor soils for vigour but excellent for restricting yield and the production of powerful, characterful wines. Their vines are on steep, sloped terraces of which the steepness of some need to be seen to be believed.
While Priorat is their main focus in addition they produce wines from neighbouring Montsant and also from Toro and Rueda across country in the Duero valley.
