In a nutshell:
A serious and concentrated Central Otago Pinot Noir from one of the leading estates
Felton Road are a benchmark estate and one of the producers responsible for building the global reputation of Central Otago Pinot Noir. This cuvée is a blend of fruit from four of their vineyards. It's traditionally fermented with indigenous yeast and had plenty of maceration time which allowed good colour and tannins to be extracted together with a considerable depth of flavour. It was then aged for 13 months in a mix of new and used French oak barrels. It's bottled without finifn or filtration so may have a slight harmelss sediment. The wine itself has intense aromas of red berries and hints of crushed herbs followed by mocha, liquorice and cinnamon notes. Soft and supple on the palate it's smooth, velvety and concentrated. It's a wine that consistently sets a standard for others to aspire to.
When to drink:
A multifaceted and rewarding wine it'll cellar well for a number of years. Full flavoured feathered game, or rich poultry dishes work very well here.
