Description
In a nutshell:
Savour the trailblazing elegance of Chile's finest - a harmonious blend with the velvety richness of a revered Bordeaux.
The lowdown:
A collaboration between Californian winemaking legend Robert Mondavi and Eduardo Chadwick of Chile's Errázuriz, this Aconcagua Valley blend has consistently garnered high praise. The 2015 vintage offers a classic expression, with blackcurrant and cassis fruit mingling with hints of spice and attractive floral notes. The palate is fresh and lively, thanks in part to the cooler Ocoa vineyard site and the higher acidity in this particular year. Crafted from a Bordeaux blend led by Cabernet Sauvignon, with Carmenere and Malbec featuring prominently, the wine underwent a meticulous selection process before spending 22 months in oak barrels. This is a serious yet approachable wine with impressive balance and a long, lingering finish.
The Producer:
Viña Errazuriz was founded in 1870 by Don Maximiano Errazuriz, a man with a keen eye for terroir. He saw potential in the Aconcagua Valley's cool winters, hot summers and cooling Pacific breezes, and transformed barren land into a world-class vineyard. Today, his descendant Eduardo Chadwick, the fifth generation at the helm, continues the focus on quality. Modern winemaking techniques sit alongside a dedication to preserving the estate's unique character. Look out for their estate-grown wines - they're a testament to Errazuriz's enduring place amongst Chile's leading family-owned producers.
When to drink:
This structured, complex blend offers both immediate pleasure and cellaring potential, reaching its peak within the next decade - a superb match for richly flavoured red meats.
Suitable for Vegans, Biodynamic
