In a nutshell: A full bodied, gently roasty stout from Elusive Brewing of Finchampstead in Berkshire.
The lowdown: Pastel de Nata is brewed in collaboration with London craft brewers Weird Beard and indeed this beer is inspired by one of their favourite recipes. They've used layers of complex malts and sugars to produce a gently roasty stout to which chocolate, chilli and vanilla were added for a cake-like feel. It's a deep mahogany coloured beer with aromas of sweet caramel and chocolate. You'll get a big chocolate hit as it washes over the palate with notes of vanilla with gentle warming chilli in a long and satisfyingly dry toasty finish.
Elusive brewing, set up in the mid 2010's, is the baby of Andy Parker a former national home-brew champion who's since gone on to win awards at many other levels. They operate from a small brewery in Finchampstead in Berkshire wehre yhey create beer with one eye on tradition and the other on taking things to the next level.
