Cockburn's Vintage Port 2003

Cockburn's was founded in 1815 in Oporto by Robert Cockburn, a Scottish wine merchant from a distinguished Edinburgh family. In the 19th Century, three other families joined the company: The Smithes, the Teages and the Cobbs and together with the Cockburns, they developed this house into one of the greatest names in Port. In the early 1960s it was acquired by Harvey's of Bristol who themselves were subsequently swallowed up by progressively large multinational drinks conglomerates until, by the early part of this century, they were one of the labels owned by Fortune Brands.

In 2010 things took a different direction when they were sold to the family owned Symington Estates who also have several other famous port houses under their wing including such respected producers as Graham's, Dow's and Warre's among others. Symington's first priority was to restore the reputation that Cockburn's had long taken for granted and much time and money has been spent improving the quality of their wines. In particular their flagship wine - Cockburn's Special Reserve - has recently been once again winning awards across the globe which is a sign of how far they've come in the last few years.
