DESCRIPTION
In a nutshell:
A tremendously concentrated and intense Gascon red from deep South Western France.
The lowdown:
Made by Alain Brumont, one of Madiran's leading lights, this cuvée is made from 80% Tannat and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. The Montus vineyard, unusually for Madiran, is made of large pebbles, or galets over a clay soil similar to those of Châtheauneuf-du-pape and is on quite steep slopes. With immense black fruits, rich spices and a big tannic structure and prolonged finish this is just now coming into its own.
When to drink:
While good for drinking now it'll be in tip top form for another ten years at least.

PRODUCER
Vignobles Brumont

Over the last 30 years or Alain Brumont has built up one the most highly regarded estates in the south western French appellation of Madiran. Among his properties the Châteaux Bouscassé and Montus , situated near the town of Castelnau-Rivière-Basse.
His range of wines span from simple Vin de Pays to exemplary single estate wines from Bouscassé and Montus which feature the area's traditional red variety Tannat. These grapes characteristically make big, tannic wines and can need careful handling and plenty of bottle age. However in the hands of leading practitioners, such as Alain Brumont, the resulting wines can be comparable to classed growth clarets with a slight Gascon twist.
