Description
In a nutshell:
A richly layered Valpolicella Superiore with dark cherry and plum, gentle spice, and smooth tannins. Elegant, deep, and refined.
The lowdown:
Made from partially dried grapes and aged in large Slavonian oak followed by up to two years in cement, this multifaceted Valpolicella Superiore has a bright, well-structured palate with refreshing acidity. Forest floor, dried herb, and intense cherry aromas are balanced by hints of violet and a subtle touch of bitter almond. Full-bodied and richly textured, along with the mellow red fruits there's a chewy mouthfeel, and grainy tannins that add depth. The finish is dry, elegant, and long, bringing a real complexity and intensity. As serious and sophisticated a Valpolicella as you'll see.
The Producer:
In northern Italy, a 'Brolo' - akin to a French 'Clos' - is a walled vineyard, and Cantine di Verona have three of these in the hills north of the city, totalling 13 hectares, where they craft wines under their Brolo dei Giusti label. One Brolo sits in the scenic Valpantena Valley, while the other two are located in Montorio on the Val Squaranto side. Head agronomist Stefano Casali has brought a sustainable touch to these vineyards, with reduced spraying, careful water use, and no weed killers. These eco-friendly practices have earned the vineyards VIVA Sustainable Viticulture certification, underscoring their commitment to mindful winemaking.
When to drink:
This is a wine with great ageing potential. It pairs beautifully with the likes of braised lamb shanks or wild mushroom pasta, where the savoury, earthy flavours in the food are a perfect match for its rich layers and smooth tannins.
Suitable for Vegans
