Welcome to another month of staff picks! Each week, our team dives into our collection to select their favourite wines, offering unique perspectives for every palate.

This April, we have a fantastic selection that's sure to tantalise your taste buds, so get ready to discover your new favourite bottle!

Claudia's Greek Spring Sipper

Subtle and smooth – that’s how I like Greek whites, and now spring’s finally here, I’m eyeing up warm afternoons in the garden with a glass of this and a bowl of salted almonds and olives. Unoaked and refreshing, it’s my current go-to with fish tacos (add lime and slaw for best results). If you like a crisp Mâcon or a bright Picpoul and fancy something a bit different, give this Savatiano a go. It’s old-vine, full of character, and a great example of the kind of quality we’re seeing from the eastern Med these days. Really enjoyable stuff.

Peter's Rediscovered Claret Classic

It’s easy to overlook the wines we’ve had on the shelves for a while when there’s always something new coming in – so this month I’ve gone back to an old favourite. I hadn’t opened Château La Croix de Grézard in a while, and I’m pleased to say it didn’t disappoint. Classic right bank Claret, soft and easy-going, with the 2019 vintage now showing a lovely mellow character thanks to a bit of bottle age. It’s been a reliable presence here for years – and now I’m kicking myself for not cracking one open sooner.

Ellie's Spring-Friendly Sardinian Red

It’s not quite rosé season yet, but while we’re waiting, this soft, juicy Sardinian red will do very nicely. Cannonau’s the grape – Sardinia’s pride and joy – though you’ll probably know it as Grenache. What I like about this one is that it skips the oak and goes straight in with loads of bright red fruit and berry character. Don’t get me wrong, there’s still plenty going on underneath – a bit of savoury spice and depth – but it’s light enough to suit those warmer evenings that are (hopefully) on the way. A proper spring-friendly red.

Dan's Curry-Friendly Riesling Discovery

OK – full disclosure – I didn’t think this sort of thing was up my street. But being a bit of a curry fan, I’ve now found something more sophisticated than a Cobra to go with it. This slightly off-dry German Riesling is a much-maligned style, but it really deserves a second look. It’s got all the good stuff – refreshing crisp acidity, a bit of flinty minerality, and loads of lush, juicy fruit. At just over 10% alcohol it’s nice and light, and straight from the fridge it’s spot on. If you’re one of those ‘bone-dry only’ types, try putting your preconceptions aside – there’s a lot to like here. And if you’ve got a curry night on the horizon, trust me – get a bottle in.
